AFAICT the biggest benefit of trusting your own judgment in the first place is that you learn something when you “fail”. In quotes b/c it’s not really failing if you learned something on the journey (probably not even failing when you don’t learn something). You are making incremental changes — to yourself.

It is understood by those in the “know” that at that moment, the Samurai’s pride and personal dignity was not on the line. Having been disrespected and spit on, he would have normally taken the man life for his own honor. However, since his presence there at that time was to avenge his master, he could not honorably take the man’s head. Fore in his own heart he could never be certain as to whether or not he killed the man out of revenge of his retainer (master) or out of defense of his own honor.

Yeah, there are several problems that our distribution systems have currently that exist because people have a poor intuitive grasp of large numbers.

The upside though is that this means the wealth for eliminating poverty is already here, we just have to redistribute it.
