I have been flipping through M’s French textbooks in my spare time. I am still enamored with the idea of speaking the language at some point. I ran across some short poems by Jacques Prévert. I like them because the French is easy to understand, but sometimes the ideas aren’t. Here’s an example:
Pour Toi Mon Amour
Je suis allé au marché aux oiseaux
Et j’ai acheté des oiseaux
Pour toi
mon amour
Je suis allé au marché aux fleurs
Et j’ai acheté des fleurs
Pour toi
mon amour
Je suis allé au marché à la ferraille
Et j’ai acheté des chaînes
De lourdes chaînes
Pour toi
mon amour
Et puis je suis allé au marche aux esclaves
Et je t’ai cherché
Mais je ne t’ai pas trouvé
mon amour
